Another mistake that can negatively impact your personal injury case has to do with medical treatment. Specifically, you do not want to wait more than a day or two to see a doctor.
Obviously, if you are hurt in a car accident, it makes sense to seek medical treatment for the sake of your health, regardless of whether you decided to pursue an injury claim or not. And you may also find that immediately after your accident and even for a day or two thereafter, you are not in severe pain.
However, if you wait more than a day or two to visit the doctor, the other driver’s insurance company will argue that you must not have been hurt too badly. If your case ends up in court, a jury might not believe you either.
We remind our clients that their health is much more important than a personal injury case. Regardless of how much money you get out of your case, there is no substitute for a pain free existence.
The human body is a very complex organism and you should not assume anything about the state of your health if you have absorbed the forces of a significant car crash. Treating with a good doctor may alert you to hidden problems, and the treatment record will help your case.
If you have any questions about post-accident medical treatment, please do not hesitate to call.
